The communication centers of the brain are damaged in most people living with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia. Despite the damage, persons with dementia still retain a desire to communicate. This webinar will discuss the loss of language skills many people with dementia experience, and offer strategies for improving communication. The webinar will also include a list of communication do’s and don’ts based upon the Best FriendsTM Approach to Dementia Care practiced by Era Living.

Presenting speaker: David Troxel has become internationally known for his writing and teaching in the fields of Alzheimer’s disease & long-term care. He has co-authored (with Virginia Bell) six influential books and articles relating to dementia care, including his new book The Best FriendsTM Approach to Dementia Care.

Celebrate the signing of the U.S. Constitution by joining your fellow citizens to read it aloud. This is a moving opportunity to experience and learn about this founding document.  
We will read the entire document-from Preamble to the final amendments on Zoom. 
All registrants will have a chance to participate as a reader and assigned section(s) to read at the event.

In this session, you’ll learn why the coronavirus pandemic has presented an opportunity for scammers and about some of the most common pandemic-related scams still out there.

Lee Weissman became an AARP volunteer speaker three years ago to help deliver important messages on topics such as fraud prevention. Previously, she has worked as a teacher in public schools and a community college and as a trainer for both managers and employees.

Jack Weissman has volunteered for the AARP Tax Aide program for over 20 years and for the past three years, has also volunteered to help deliver AARP Fraud prevention programs. Jack was previously an aerospace engineer.

The general principles of mindfulness are acceptance, purpose and doing what needs to be done. When we connect to our breath, we create a moment of pause, a chance to restore.  It allows time for insight and helps us move forward. This workshop will introduce the art of mindfulness, with a simple, ongoing practice.

Wisdom Cafes invite groups of older adults to engage in intentional dialogues led by trained facilitators. Participants engage with others, are motivated to try new things and are inspired by sharing life experiences.
