As of this posting, all blogs listed are active and currently available.
Since the early 2000s, blogs have grown to become a popular publishing outlet for businesses, nonprofits, and writers. The world of blogging has grown to include just about any topic you can imagine—and we’re happy to see the wide gamut of senior topics out there now as well. That certainly wasn’t true 20 years ago.
Fortunately, there are also some blogs featuring strong senior writers today. These writers are sharing their perspectives, offering support and positivity, and talking about a range of topics from health to current events. Here are a few blogs for older adults, and written by older adults, to explore and enjoy.
Blogs with a Focus on Senior Women
Geri at FabOverFifty—now in her ’70s—created the site as a place for what she calls a “dynamic generation of women” to share style and fashion, life experiences, and recommendations. She’s currently writing about health, relationships, and major society events.
Margaret Manning started Sixty and Me with the desire to help fellow senior women live healthy, financially secure, and joyful lives. Sixty and Me has now grown into a community of over 500,000 women in their sixties and older.
Time Goes By: Founder, editor, and contributing writer, Ronni Bennett started Time Goes By as her own research efforts on the process of aging. A lifelong journalist and now pancreatic cancer survivor, she continues to write frankly about aging topics and concerns. She also re-blogs on both current events and interesting facts from history (check out the story on George Washington’s teeth). Ronni welcomes reader submissions.
Family therapist, women’s activist, teacher, and writer Pat Taub founded Women’s Older Wisdom (WOW) out of necessity. She was frustrated at the lack of resources for help managing her concerns. There also seemed to be a dominant message of prioritizing youth over senior age. She and other contributors now write from a senior female perspective on current events, health, and society. It’s her goal that WOW continues to offer a supportive community for older women to share experiences, humor, resources, and yes, wisdom.
Focus on Senior Health & Concerns
Named by Healthline.com as one of the Best Senior Health Blogs of 2020, Elder Chicks covers topics from health management to the recent protests surrounding racial injustice. Co-founders, seniors Dr. Thelma Reese and Dr. Barbara Fleisher, invite senior women to create a community for sharing their stories on senior life in 2020. And in their new book, How Seniors Are Saving the World, they describe the power and value of senior activism.
Over at Changing Aging, Dr. Bill Thomas (now in his ’60s) and co-founder Kavan Peterson are challenging conventional views on aging. Profiled in The Washington Post and speaking nationwide since 2014, Dr. Thomas is working to change the narrative with a “radical reinterpretation of longevity” to put elders at the center of the collective pursuit of happiness.
Focus on Senior Men—by Senior Men
Sadly, these make up a smaller number of senior blogs available today (gentlemen, think about blogging!). But Dr. Jed Diamond’s Men Alive offers expert insights, exercises, and advice on men’s health. His goal is to help men transition towards healthy approaches to well-being.
And Mark Sisson, founder of Primal Kitchen and bestselling author of The Primal Blueprint, has been running the blog component of his health and fitness business since 2006. Not just focused on healthy eating and exercise, Mark health topics cover concerns for all ages. He shows just how diet and exercise can dramatically elevate senior men’s health.
Music
Time Goes By: Peter Tibbles writes a weekly column on many genres of music, including what he calls “Elder Music.” The most recent post? The theme of ‘funny’ in songs from Nat King Cole to Merle Haggard.
